Hi,
I am a mother trying to learn more about drug addition. My daughter is an attic of Meth and has used many other drugs in the past. To be able to help her, I need to understand what she is going through. She is currently in jail. I sent her a few true story letters relating to drug addiction experiences of other people and it really interest her and is helping her I believe. Other inmates would like me to send them letters as well and I would like to send as many letters and words of encouragement to all that I can in jail. If you have a true story that you will allow me to share, please send it to me. Also, any information you would like to give me relating to drug addiction will be appreciated. R.G. Fredricks

Put your recovery above all and just be an example for him.

addiction in the family
hi, i am an addict. i have been clean for a little over 4 years. recently my brother was released from prison and soon began that downhill spiral of self-destruction by starting using. i drove myself crazy trying to help him. i just knew that if he would only listen to me he would make it through this. very soon i realized that instead of him getting better i was only getting sicker.in desperation i sought help from other addicts. an addict with 20 years clean said something that i really got with, " i love you to much to help you." we are simply to close to our relatives to help them with their addiction. remember i am an addict. i have no trouble understanding the disease. if you are not an addict it is very unlikely that you will ever understand addiction. the best help might be for you simply to encourage your daughter to get involved in a 12 step program such as n.a. so that other addicts can help her find a new way to live. meanwhile you just keep loving her.

My story
I put my website above that I blog on, most of it deals with my addiction issues. I wrote one blog on this site that you may use. I also wrote out a shortened version of my story, but it was too long for here, so I am going to paste it into a blog on my website for you-I'll put your screen name as the title on the blog so you can find it easy. You may use any of my stories for your daughter or other inmates. I'm pretty open about my addiction with people and will answer any questions you might have. You may email me as well for any reason or just to keep in touch-I always like to hear others' stories and how they are doing. So I hope that my story/blogs help you or your daughter, even in some small way. Take care.

hello
Hello RG, I would suggest that you attend al-anon, its for loved ones of recovering addicts. it will help you to help her. As for stories, we all have them, the truth is is that addiction is an incurable "disease" and it can be arrested at some point when the addict is willing to except spiritual help.
Addiction is two-fold, it's 1st the mental obsession to use, and second, the compulsion to continue to use, at all cost regardless of consequences, after we have taken that first drink/drug. There is so much to addiction, that I as an addict don't understand, but I do know that "recovery" is a life style, and that most true addicts, will have to be involved in some sort of 12step program if they wish to have any success, without it, we are sure to use again. There is hope, one day at a time, addicts do acquire some solid years of sober/clean living. I wish you luck, god bless, and don't give up, one day before the "miracle" happens!~~ Every day a true addict stays clean, is truly a miracle.
Try the library as well, get a bunch of books and start reading. This monster "addiction" is huge!
