“This is our road to spiritual growth. We change every day… This growth is not the result of wishing but of action and prayer.”
Basic Text, pp.35-36
Spiritual growth is a continuous journey. It’s not static; it’s either progressing or regressing. When we cease to actively pursue our spiritual development, we risk stagnation. Over time, this stagnation leads to decay, and we find ourselves slipping back into old, destructive patterns.
Standing still in our spiritual journey means losing the upward momentum we’ve built. Gradually, our growth slows, halts, and eventually reverses. Signs of this regression include diminished tolerance, a waning willingness to serve others, and a closed mind. These symptoms reflect our return to conflict and dissatisfaction with ourselves and those around us.
To prevent this backslide, active participation in our program of spiritual growth is essential. This involves:
Our spiritual progress is driven by our understanding of and relationship with a Higher Power. As we come to understand this power better each day, our spiritual growth gains speed and momentum.
“Up or down-it’s one or the other, with very little in between, where spiritual growth is concerned.”
Recovery and spiritual growth are not fueled by passive wishing or dreaming. They require active engagement through prayer and tangible actions. We cannot rely on yesterday’s progress; each day presents a new opportunity for growth.
“Just for today: The only constant in my spiritual condition is change. I cannot rely on yesterday’s program. Today, I seek new spiritual growth through prayer and action.”
This commitment to daily action ensures that we continue to move forward in our spiritual journey. Each day, we seek new ways to grow, learn, and connect with our Higher Power.
Wishing for growth without taking action is futile. Active participation in our spiritual program through consistent practices like prayer, service, and open-mindedness leads to real progress. Each small action contributes to our overall spiritual development.
Trying new ideas and ways of doing things enriches our lives. By stepping out of our comfort zones, we experience life in a whole new way. This willingness to explore and embrace change fuels our spiritual growth.
Spiritual growth is an ongoing process that requires daily commitment and action. By actively participating in our recovery program and seeking guidance from a Higher Power, we ensure that our spiritual condition remains dynamic and progressive.
Just for today, commit to seeking new spiritual growth through prayer and action. Embrace the journey of continuous change and allow your spiritual condition to thrive.
