Desperation is often seen as undesirable, but for addicts, it can be a gift. It compels us to accept the First Step and become open to new ideas. Our best efforts at control only wore us out, making us willing to surrender.
Desperation helps us become honest, open-minded, and willing to accept the spiritual principles that make recovery possible.
Just for today: The gift of desperation has helped me become honest, open-minded, and willing. I am grateful for this gift because it has made my recovery possible.
